The book is titled as “The Art and Science of Assisted Reproductive Technology” and it gives a brief description of the art and science involved in the assisted reproductive technology. It gives a comprehensive step by step guide to different types of ART. The book is divided into fifteen sections, beginning with instructions on ‘Setting up an assisted reproductive technology laboratory’. The second section is a guide to the evaluation of an infertile couple, including the use of ultrasound and Doppler imaging in infertility, and the effect of the environment on fertility. Third section discusses the use of endoscopy in managing infertility and also the protocols of endocrinology and stimulation. In the fifth section the author has described about retrieval, evaluation and preparation of oocytes and sperm. Sixth section highlights a new technique called Micromanipulation. In addition, the book also encompasses the methods for enhancing the sperm, oocyte, as well as all aspects of ART, from laboratory set up, embryo transfer and implantation, to cryopreservation (freezing) of eggs, sperm and embryos. The book describes ART techniques that employ molecular genetics, which can maximise the efficiency of ART treatments.
