Rhinology Handbook

Rhinology is the study of the nose, including the sinuses. Diseases of the nose, paranasal sinuses, and skull base are common including allergic rhinitis, acute/chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction and epistaxis. Successful medical management at the primary care level can usually be achieved with an accurate diagnosis based upon assessment of patient history, nasal symptoms and appropriate treatment. This book, “Rhinology Handbook” is divided into seven chapters. First chapter focuses on anatomy of the olfactory system, sinonasal physiology, and embryology and anatomy of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Acute and chronic rhinosinusitis are broadly discussed in second and third chapter. Nasal obstruction and nasal neoplasms are covered in fourth and fifth chapter. Epidemiology, anatomy and management of epistaxis have been described in sixth chapter. The last chapter of this book provides a glimpse on common nasal and sinus pathologies in children. The goal of this manual is to familiarize primary care physicians, medical students, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals with common rhinological conditions. This comprehensive knowledge will allow primary care providers to effectively diagnose and treat disorders and refer patients to the appropriate otolaryngologist for complicated problems that require more sophisticated diagnostic tools and potential surgical interventions.
